Roche Harbor, San Juan Islands, Washington, Hunsaker Siblings Reunion. July 2016

Worthen and Karen chose a fabulous location for our biennial siblings reunion, Roche Harbor in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. For Jesse and Diane, it was a first time to visit these picturesque islands.
We visited historic sites on the island where the British and American troops had encampments during the war of pigs!

The town of Roche Harbor began as a lime mining operation for use in cement.

The harbor is a vacation spot for yachts from all over the world.

Worthen and Karen are looking for whales.

One day we journeyed on the ferry to Victoria Island, BC to see the famous Butchart gardens. Diane was in flower heaven!

At Friday Harbor, we boarded a Schooner, the Spike Africa, to sail the islands for a couple of hours.
We are so happy that this vacation tradition has continued now for over ten years!

Alaska Fishing Adventure June 2016

The Alaskan Fishing Adventure included Jesse, Matt, Mike Dryden, and Calvin Hunsaker. This has been several years in planning the Pybus Point Lodge location which is owned by Alpiners, Scott and Jodi Jorgensen.  Everyone loved the beauty of Alaskan scenery from the majestic mountains, ocean vistas, orcas, sea lions, and Eagles, not mention the successful fishing!

Halibut was mostly too big to keep, and too large to reel in!

Sea bass and yellow eye were plentiful.

DR Congo #6 and Kenya #2 Humanitarian May 26-June 7, 2016

Our first stop on our way to Africa landed us in France at Monet's countryside home in Giverny. We couldn't resist visiting these  gorgeous gardens in the Sprimg at their height of glory! Claire Hunsaker and two classmates joined us on this outing while they were studying abroad in Paris.

 DRCongo visit #6
The University of Kinshasa and St. Joseph's Hospital received new diagnostic equipment to increase their capacity to help treat glaucoma and diabetes patients. It was a pleasure to work with Dr.  Kilangalanga once again.

Elder Lono who is an area seventy in DRCongo spent two days with us as we implemented the project. His family treated us to dinner on our final night. We appreciated their hospitality very much!

Our next stop was Kenya to develop a project as our former development did not materialize. We found a wonderful hospital, called St Mary's in Nairobi, which was very clean and in need of eye examination equipment.  Elder and Sister Petersen took us to Nairobi National Park one day where we hit the jackpot of animal sightings, including Lions, hippos, and an elusive young leopard that we couldn't get a good picture of. On our way out of the park we spotted a rhino very far off in the distance.

The Petersens took is to a factory where they made soccer balls by hand with African animals painted on them and the message of "No Poaching!"
