Jamaica Humanitarian March 22-29, 2014

Our humanitarian expedition to Jamaica has been a delightful, rewarding and very successful experience.  Traveling with Dr. Matt and MIcki Harris made our trip all the more enjoyable.  They are the age of Holly and Brian, but we have much in common with careers, children, church and vision care.  Each morning, we would find them in the gym doing what we like to do, exercise!  Elder and Sister Murdoch have been so kind to provide our transportation to all appointments, and for some sightseeing excursions.  They are from Monroe, Utah.  Dad was able to examine Elder Murdoch's eyes as he is having some trouble seeing at night due to cataracts.

We are enjoying Jamaican Jerk Chicken cooked on huge outdoor grills over charcoal at this restaurant called Scotchies.

What a very good-looking group of children at the May-Pen ward on Sunday!  Jamaica has about 17 branches, and no Stake organized yet.  They still need more Priesthood leadership before they can make a stake.  President Brown, a native Jamaican and mission president is on fire with his goals to take 200 members to the Dominican Republic temple in a few weeks.  Adults and youth will be going on a chartered plane with 10 family names each to perform ordinances for at the temple.  This is a very difficult process to find family names, as birth, marriage, or death records are not very well kept, and fathers are also difficult to locate!

We are eating at our favorite Jamaican restaruant called South Avenue with President and Sister Brown, the Murdochs, and Harris's. The Browns have a young family and are highly loved by all the missionaries.

Our contacts at Kingston Pubic Hospital, Dr Lue and nurse Florence were very receptive and met with us without an appointment.  On our second meeting with them,  we discussed in detail, the equipment  and contacts needed to get the items through customs.  It just so happend that a women in the waiting room with her father worked for the minister of health so she was invited to join our meeting. She had names and phone numbers of the government people we were seeking!  Thanks to all our family for keeping us in your prayers.  It really helped!

Fort Charles on the tiny peninsula of Port Royal has been in existence since 1656.  In 1692 an earthquake destroyed two thirds of the city.  Many felt that this was sign of God's wrath on the "Sodom of the Indies."  You can just imagine that this was a city right out of Pirates of the Caribbean!

Inside the earthquake tossed building gave us a giddy feeling.
